From beginning to end, Shot Forth Self Living is more than a listening experience. It makes your spine tingle and blood hum with its power. This brash and uncompromising masterpiece is a rebel force amongst shoegaze classics. Noted as the American take on the genre. As part of the Captured Tracks Shoegaze Archives, everything has been remastered and an expanded version of the album offered on a 2XCD.

Worth buying for the first track alone
I got this album back in the days on the basis that I was buying a lot of indie/drone/noise and it was of a similar vein, but new in that it touched both on Loop, Sonic Youth with a bit of dance/electronica thrown in.Some of it lapses into predictable but pleasant indie-droneish guitar stuff, and the closer 'Christmas Song' is in my view unlistenable to, but the opening track 'One More' is a stunning example of what could be achieved once these bands ignored any agreed limits, with a long white-noise intro giving way to a creeping drumbeat and then such a thick wah-wah laden wall of guitar sound it could hold up a building. A seemingly dispassionate vocal, which i've always assumed is ironic rather than serious, adds to one of the great slab-of-sound tracks produced in that era, along with Spacemen Three's 'Suicide' and Loop's 'Be Here Now'.Other great tracks are the singles 'Five' and 'Aruca', the latter of which is a great indie-dance track which really should have done better.

All ok!
Nice example of noise pop, influenced by Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. I like it
